About I Was Supposed To Have A Baby

Our Mission

I Was Supposed To Have A Baby’s mission is to transform how the Jewish community cares for people struggling with fertility and loss by providing mental health support, educational resources, and a warm, nurturing space through digital platforms, communal convenings, and connections to wider support networks.

We comfort people on all fertility journeys, including infertility, miscarriage, stillbirth, infant loss, termination for medical reasons, donor conception, adoption, surrogacy, etc.

Our Vision

We envision a supportive, compassionate, and responsive Jewish community, where people on a fertility journey feel validated and held.

Our Impact

To meaningfully address the mental health challenges individuals on a fertility journey currently experience, IWSHAB’s work impacts the following audiences in the following ways:

  • Jewish people along a fertility journey are validated, knowledgeable, & not lonely.

  • Friends and family of those experiencing fertility struggles are empowered to support & comfort.

  • Jewish organizations & institutions design & implement systems to care for individuals’ mental and emotional health as they experience fertility struggles.

  • The Jewish community is equipped to appropriately acknowledge & proactively support individuals experiencing fertility struggles.

Prayers From The Couch (Tefillah Min HaSapa)

Access the PDF here

Synagogue or Temple is a place of communal gathering for daily and weekly services, life cycle events, prayers, and socializing. However, this once uplifting and positive center of your life may have become a place of avoidance, sadness and longing as you are trying to build your family.

Our goal is to help you feel less isolated and more connected to others, who also may be sitting in their homes searching for words or meaning. Prayers From The Couch (Tefillah Min HaSapa) is a resource that we hope brings you comfort to know that you are not alone in this journey.
