Types of Guilt In Infertility

Unfortunately, guilt is a part of infertility. It’s a feeling of having done something wrong, whether real or imagined.

  1. Infertility Guilt: “I shouldn’t have eaten all that junk food when I was growing up.. I caused my infertility to happen.

  2. Religious Guilt: “The reason we’re not getting pregnant is because I’m not as frum (religious) as I used to be, and I don’t daven (pray) enough.”

  3. Relationship Guilt: “On our fertility journey, I am the reason we can’t have children, not my partner. I am ruining their dream.”

  4. Treatment Guilt: “I waiting too long to try IVF. This cycle failed and it’s my fault.”

  5. Miscarriage/Loss Guilt: "I’m the reason this baby died. I shouldn’t have lifted those heavy boxes.”

  6. Termination for Medical Reasons Guilt: “Maybe the baby would have been fine in the end. Did I make the wrong choice in terminating?”

  7. Third Party Reproduction Guilt: “I fell ‘less-than’ because my child won’t share my DNA.”
