Therapy and G-d

In some circles, people announce the latest piece of advice their therapist gave them at the dinner table. In others, going to therapy is such a taboo subject, that it’s only talked about in hushed tones, if at all.

Regardless of what your community does, I’d like to share one thing that keeps coming up.

Therapy does not mean that you are weak.
Therapy does not mean that you don’t believe in
G-d.
Therapy does not mean that you can’t still go to your rabbi/clergy/spiritual advisor for advice if that’s something that you value.

Therapy means that you are taking care of yourself.
Therapy means you are making time to talk about things that are on your mind with an unbiased party.
Therapy helps connect you to yourself on a deeper level.
Therapy will not take away your pain, but it will make it easier to carry.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So, keep G-d a part of your life, if He is already there, but don’t forgo therapy because you think
G-d will take care of you.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Because He can’t... until you start to help yourself.
