Day 3: Worthy of Praise

"After a few losses, many people believed that they needed to give me advice.

Eat organic.
Sleep in this position.
Try this vitamin.

Believe me - I am doing everything I can that is right for my body and mind.

If I want advice, I’ll speak to a professional.

Your advice, while seemingly harmless, only serves as a way to tell me I did something wrong. It tells me that you believe I could have caused this situation with something I did (or didn’t do).

At best, you MIGHT get me to discuss something new with my doctor. At worst, you may be adding to my guilt.

Instead, please praise my efforts.
Praise my accomplishments.
Praise me just for getting out of bed this morning.
Praise me just for making a nice dinner tonight.

But please, leave your advice at the door."
