Pregnant After Loss Tips

“Can you share some tips about how to get through pregnancy after loss? I am 6 weeks pregnant now and a mess. It’s just so hard to get through the day. I’m always nervous and I get more nervous the days of my scans. I had a 19 week loss a couple years ago, and it took me a long time to even want to get pregnant again. And now, I can’t seem to be quiet the anxiety. When does it get better? How can I make it better? How am I going to make it through the whole pregnancy?”

Questions about pregnancy after loss (PAL) are so common unfortunately. Everyone wants to know about some magic that makes things easier, makes the anxiety go away, helps with the sleepless nights and the constant feeling like bad news is just around the corner.

PAL takes you from being a person who is excited about being pregnant, and likes to plan out how many children you will have, when you have them (hence the repost of @breathingafterloss graphic), to someone who knows that pregnancy is precarious and not all babies get a chance to take a breath.

We wish that we could guarantee you a baby in your arms in 9 months, but we can’t. What we *can* do is tell you that:

-you’re not alone in this thinking
-you’re not crazy
-some people want home Dopplers to check the heartbeat; others want nothing to do with that
-staying busy helps a lot with the anxiety. The busier you are, the less time there is to think 🤔
-self-care is really important to keep you even-keeled so that you can tend to your body and mind during a time when everything seems out of your control
