Toxic Positivity

No matter how many times you tell someone this, it’s just not the way to happiness.

It’s the same as forcing the “good vibes only” or “just keep going” shtick. It doesn’t work.

This is also known as toxic positivity- maintaining that one should have a positive mindset and exude only positive emotions and thoughts at all times, particularly when things are difficult. This approach is damaging because it discounts and discredits emotions that are not positive.

Let’s help people be able to sit with their difficult emotions instead of forcing something that’s potentially harmful.
