We Found Out That We Are Carriers of Recessive Genetic Condition While Expecting

Here is a voice from the community written by a follower whose path to parenthood looks different than envisioned due to genetic concerns:

“My husband and I both found out we were carriers of a Jewish recessive genetic condition called familial dysautonomia while we had also just found out we were expecting.

We spoke about options with out genetic counselor and unfortunately, if our baby had the condition it wouldn’t survive long past birth. Thankfully, after a CVS (chronic villus sampling) and a long wait, we found out we’re having a girl who is just a carrier.

The process has been hard and there have been lots of emotions.

We’re hoping to save enough money to do IVF in 2 years or so when we are ready for baby #2.

I’m currently 12 weeks pregnant and feeling way better. I know the wait it hard but it always helped me to hear others positive stories so I wanted to pass mine along in case any other genetic carriers came your way.”
