Dear Baby

“Dear Baby”

Dear Baby,

Love isn’t enough, is it?

You were so loved,

Before we even met.

You were so wanted, so precious

We were waiting for your birthday.

As if it never happened,

Like a dream

Or a terrifying nightmare.

It’s like you exist

Only in my imagination.

We’ve made a space

Just for you

In our home, with us

And in our hearts, forever.

I can still feel you,

Inside me

Kicking your feet,

So alive.

Then you were there-

You were so perfect,

So beautiful

You looked like your sister,

As you came into this world

So silently.

On that day I was to,

Study your face

Hear your sweet cry

And marvel at what was mine

On that day I was to,

Count your fingers and toes

Smell that newborn scent

As I’d hold you in my embrace

Instead we said our goodbyes,

Then you were gone

And we have to stay.

Because

Love isn’t enough, is it?
