How You Can Show Support

One of our most asked questions is: "How can I support my sister/friend/cousin/daughter going through infertility?"

And while there is no one answer that fits every person's needs, this graphic is a good place to start when thinking about how to support your loved one during the upcoming holidays.

The key is compassion, sensitivity, no judgement, and validation.

And if you feel lost, you can always ask "How can I best support you right now?"

  • Meet Them Where They Are

    • “Can I come over with some chocolate and wine?”

  • Respect Their Boundaries

    • “I know that this time of year is hard and I understand and respect that you are doing what’s best for you.”

  • Treat Them The Same As Other Adults

    • “Josh and Hannah come sit next to me at the table, away from the kid’s section.”

  • Include Them

    • “Do you want to come for Rosh Hashana dinner? I’d love to have you, but no pressure!”

  • Validate

    • “My heart is breaking for you. That’s awful!”

  • Listen And Make Them Feel Safe

    • “Just know that I’m always here if you just want to talk or you just want to cry without questions or judgement.”

  • Run Interference

    • “Hey Grandma Rachel, why don’t we give Sarah a break from all the questions and let her read her book alone right now!”
