Fasting Emotions

There are six days in a year when observant Jews fast. Two “Major Fasts” call for a fast from sundown on the day before to sundown on the day itself (yom kippur and Tisha B'av), and four “Minor Fasts” call for a fast from sunrise to sundown (Today - Shiva Assur B'Tammus, Tzom Gedalia, Asara B'teves, and Taanis Esther).

During these fasts, food and drink are prohibited.

And while every individual's medical needs are different and each person must consult their doctor and rabbi as to the proper way to proceed on each fast days, fasting is something that many pregnant/nursing women do not do.

For many in the fertility community, these days bring up all kinds of feelings.

-They wish they wouldn't have to tell people that they are not eating today.
-They wish they didn't lose that pregnancy last week/month because if they were still pregnant, they would be able to eat.
-But really, they just wish they were pregnant now.

So to all of you who desperately wish you were not fasting today, we see you.

xoxo
